Pragya Nagra, known for her work in the Malayalam film industry, has spoken out regarding the clips that have purportedly been leaked against her will and have gone viral on several social media sites. The incident was described by the multilingual actress in a post shared on X as something more as an “AI-generated clip” than a bad dream, she explained more in detail about the incident.
Nagra “I am still hoping it is only a bad dream and rather am in a state of denial.”Consider how all of us hate to believe that technology was meant to ease things around for us or struggle more. I truly pity the terrible brains that use AI to create junk alongside the people who aid in spreading it! A 25 year old lady noted that no woman should have to be in such circumstances.
While addressing the people, Pragya Nagra added, “In the course of all this, I try my best to be strong and am grateful to those who support me in these times.” There are other women too who welted in the past subjected through such torturous experiences and I truly hope none else has to and all of you take care of yourselves in the end!
On Friday, the internet was teeming with activity as reports suggesting that Nagra’s personal and private videos had been smuggled through backdoors and circulated online. Such videos were indeed circulating around. Video clips that were ascribed to her were surfacing on social media platforms.
However, the legitimacy of the recordings was brought into question, especially considering that a number of actresses were only recently the targets of deepfake videos.
In the past few months, a number of South Indian actresses including Jyothi Rai, Oviyaa and many more have been caught in similar situations as these. As a matter of fact, many netizens are circulating private footages claiming that they have shot themselves on those footages and are now leaking those online. They did however lodge formal complaints with authorities against the clips and termed them fake. Following the sharing of a deepfake clip of Rashmika Mandanna last year, the concern of deepfake videos shifted to the attention of consumers.
In the footage, a well-known actor was seen boarding the elevator. A writer cum researcher named Abhishek Kumar took note of this particular issue and emphasized the importance of framing some law and regulatory provisions in order to address the emerging threat of Deepfake in India.
For those who are unaware, Deepfake is an emerging strain of technology that combines artificial intelligence with sophisticated algorithms to produce digital content that appears real- too real- but is not real. It’s easy for people to fall for these allegations, especially since this technology can synthesize a person’s voice and alter their physical appearance in films or recordings. Before the video was released, the British-Indian influencer’s images were digitally swapped with those of the Rashmika Mandanna actress, who was a part of the original filming.
It also Nagra also siad, I deeply pained me to have to say this and even talk about the deepfake video which surfaced and circulated online. I feel terribly terrible about having to share this. this is how taken aback I am, This cry is how many of us are feeling and in agony at the way these videos are used against their owners in this era of highly advanced technology. Today, I am blessed because my family and friends, and all my well-wishers they are my strength and support.
As an actress and a woman, Pragya Nagra also said that,” I thank them. I do not think it would be easy to handle the aftermath of such technology if it was available back when I was a student in secondary or higher education. For more of us not to be victims of identity theft, I believe that we need to treat it as a serious problem with the urgency and seriousness that it deserves as a society.
